Caxton, I'll repeat: none of the 3G systems, QCOM included, can provided the throughput that MCOM currently does. Further, do you suppose cellular carriers who rollout HDR for the WAP phone users (in 2004 or whenever) won't bill per minute? That is, if one dared to really download a significant amount of data, would they provide it for a flat fee? I'll tell you the answer now: no.

Just remember: spatial reuse of spectrum. Metricom's microcell architecture provides it, the QCOM system does not. Further, the QCOM rep you quoted earlier attempted to imply that the MCOM system was more expensive to deploy, since it used 50 microcellular radios within a 12 sq. mile area (coverage area of one cell site). What she didn't tell you was that the microcell radios only cost $1500 each, have minimal setup time, and minimal effective lease cost per site (just the small ROW fees to the local utility, together with a few free R2 accounts).

I've done my DD. That's why I invested in MCOM for broadband wireless. They will be the only gorilla in this game.

The 3G systems serve a completely different niche. They do NOT provide true 'broadband' wireless, just snippets of data. For a fee each time.
