Testifying against the need for privacy legislation -- because Novell is offering Digital Me -- is a dumb move. It would be good for Novell for the government to codify a privacy-friendly regime that Novell will be compliant with -- and others won't. That erects another barrier to the competition.

This is a case of ideology getting in the way of good business sense.
