You misunderstand my point Godfrey. I was responding to Sun-Tzu saying that Chirac was commiting political suicide. Maudlin's view is that Chirac already was over that edge and this was his last ditch effort to save his own ass. What I'm trying to point out is that Chirac is a shallow, self-serving politician - nothing more and nothing less. I read Mauldin because he has been calling bullshit on the American financial system long before it was hip to do so, not for his views on foreign affairs, although his view of Chirac did seem quite plausible to me. I am indeed intrigued by the politics of the European makeover, as I believe we very well might be at an important turning point in world history. But I do not support this war in the least and I have been actively organizing and protesting against it for a long time. Since the late 60's I have been deeply cynical of American foreign policy (as well as most other nation's)- not as a fade or a cool phase to go through, but as a deep commitment in my life. Just thought you should know, bro!
