Sun has committed to using Ancor's switches, and EMC has elected to supply their equipment with both Ancor and Brocade switches. For the sake of argument let's pretend EMC chooses to buy mostly Ancor switches. Now Cisco has less to offer the Sun and EMC customers.

As a part of Sun's recent NAS/SAN product announcement, they committed to support of all of the top brands of FC switches, including BRCD. This is the result of some pretty strong customer pressure, I am told.

Why would Cisco care who sells more FC switches unless perhaps this is the beginning of a courtship?

1. BRCD has 90% of the FC switch market.
2. BRCD has alliances with the top storage companies, EMC and NTAP.
