Short Take: Lucent unveils voice-over-IP
strategy

Lucent Technologies rolled out plans to implement voice using Internet standards over
corporate networks using existing technology. The company's voice-over-IP thrust is based
on the company's Cajun line of switching devices, its voice application software associated
with earlier circuit-switching technology, and new support for protocols and directory
systems that provide features for quality assurance. The company also announced that
network software provider Novell would implement Lucent's voice-over-IP set of
technologies.
