Why have analysts?

What happened to buy low sell high?

What's with these analysts! They never seem to get it right but they are always ready with a reason to buy or sell on the day they issue their recommendations.

You need to remember that their sole purpose is to generate commissions (if you ignore the investment banking issues). They would be out of work if they picked a few stocks and said "Buy these and hold for life unless we tell you otherwise. It is OK to sell a bit now and then when you need the money in retirement."

IF you really had a good analyst then why would you let him publish his advice for free before you were through buying all the shares you wanted to begin with for your clients? You really want your analysts pumping the stocks to sell into... which often seems the case if you look at what really happens. They, as a whole, downgrade near the bottoms and upgrade near tops.
