Liberal Thought Police

This is the kind of thing you wish were parody. A magazine praised by Al Gore has called for people who are skeptical about climate change to be charged with war crimes.

Grist Magazine’s staff writer David Roberts called for the Nuremberg-style trials for the “bastards” who were members of what he termed the global warming “denial industry.”

Roberts wrote in the online publication on September 19, 2006, “When we’ve finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we’re in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards — some sort of climate Nuremberg.”

Unbelievable. It seems that liberals honestly want to put all those who disagree with them to death. At the very least, I’m sure they would start up a jizya. I suppose this could be settled by a simple condemnation of this by Al Gore and other liberals.

Ya, that’ll happen.

Check out this startling excerpt from George Monbiot's new book Heat.

It's about the climate-change "denial industry," which most of you are probably familiar with. What you may not know about is the peculiar role of the tobacco industry in the whole mess. I've read about this stuff for years and even I was surprised by some of the details.

When we've finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we're in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards -- some sort of climate Nuremberg.

UPDATE: GRIST RETRACTS CALL FOR NUREMBERG-STYLE TRIALS
(http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2006/10/12/115734/52 )

David Roberts posted the following response on the Grist Blog today, retracting his earlier statement:

"There are people and institutions knowingly disseminating falsehoods and distortions about global warming. They deserve to be held publicly accountable.

As to what shape that accountability would take, my analogy to the Nuremberg trials was woefully inappropriate -- nay, stupid. I retract it wholeheartedly. More -- much more -- later."
