Putting certain ideas off limits is a sign of the weakness of the ideas. Doesn't faith takes care of that ?

If it is, indeed, "another quaint custom," I guess part of the issue is that people always want to belong to a club of some sort. Religion is a big part of that fabric often.

that doesn't diminish let alone ridicule it No it doesn't but it leaves it open to same.

Here in Toronto the public schools try to be inclusive of other cultures and acknowledge their various fêtes etc.. but only in a cursory fashion so it is all rather tame.. We also have a separate Catholic school system where the themes and images of the religion are pervasive. I wonder just how inclusive they could really be ?

FWIW... my term quaint custom is not my view... but one I imagine many have just from reading SI.
