Checking out most fuel efficient mid size cars here.. oee.nrcan.gc.ca Toyota Prius gets 71 mpg in the" CITY".....67 mpg on the highway probably the first car to accomplish this reversal due to" Hybrid Synergy Drive System"...here toyota.com it can go into "stealth mode" at low speeds, operating only on the drive battery which is charged by "dynamic braking" and the engine. Looking at the Toyota animation i can picture a railway locomotive..it already has a 3600 Hp diesel engine, a junungouse main generator, and six large traction motors(generators in dynamic braking mode) the only thing lacking for an efficient railway is a modern day "tender" VRB battery car behind the locomotive. gg
