I understand what you're saying. When you short, you commit to a path that says that the maximum return you can possibly make is 100% while you could lose your shirt if it takes off. Your logic makes sense.

However, shorters are different than you and me. They believe, and the BB history has validated their belief, that no matter what the run, they all will pull back.Typically, they all do pull back. Moreover, most of the stocks they short never run much in the first place. True, failures can be devastating, but they are extremely rare and the number of failures that are permanent are rarer still.

And answer this one. If shorting BBs is so dangerous, why is it so difficult for regular investors to find stateside firms that will let the little people do it?
