Sony Ericsson Sees Upside To '02 Industry Forecast Monday November 25, 1:49 pm ET
STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Mobile-phone maker Sony Ericsson now believes 2002 industry sales could top its earlier forecast of 390 million phones, a senior executive said Monday. "We now see it slightly higher than we predicted a few weeks ago," Sony Ericsson's marketing chief, Jan Waereby, said at an Ericsson investor conference in New York. "We're now on the upside" of the forecast of 390 million.
ADVERTISEMENT Waereby said Sony Ericsson expects industry sales to increase in 2003, but said he wants to see how sales develop during the holiday season before making a firm forecast.
Sony Ericsson, a joint venture of Telefon AB LM Ericsson and Sony Corp. , is the world's fifth-largest phone-maker, with a market share of around 5%.
Nokia Corp. (NOK), the world's largest phone-maker with a market share of around 35%, has predicted that around 400 million phones will be sold worldwide this year. |
