"I'm told there is a way of doing the transfer using XP and a data cable between the 2 computers. Is anyone familiar with this?"

winxp has a files and settings transfer wizard, which makes use of DCC, or direct cable connection.

i have not used it. i have read that it does a somewhat incomplete job.

to learn more, and to access the wizard in xp, go to

start \ programs \ accessories \ system tools \ files & settings transfer wizard

this dialog will also display a hyperlink for connecting your computers.

hope this helps

:)
