I like to factor in expected events but it is not always possible (time constraints etc.). Definitely I love power spikes on significant news whether I knew it was coming or not.

First I run a scan for short interest, float, market cap, days to cover, then wait for a technical power spike to break the shorts back. Once that happens I have a clear exit point if the squeeze doesn't turn out as planned, usually the point of the gap. A simple trailing stop is all I use for profitable exits, but eventually I would like to develop a parabolic stop to use instead.

I'm pretty comfortable with my TA skills, be advised, the short interest equation is still under development.

One other note, for this system I like to use about 2% of my trading capital on each trade to limit exposure and diversify.
