Sounds bad. Sounds like this flu can kill for no apparent reason, just a genetic quirk. The flu very occasionally kills children who get severe symptoms. Shanghai B killed one young girl in Toronto about 28 years ago, the only fatality in Toronto of what most people thought was a very very severe flu. I had it and I felt like I was going to die, let me tell you. Laid you right out.

I would close that school. There is no way that school officials can tell if the girls gave it to several other people. Low likelihoods can be played with when we are talking non fatal illness. We have to talk risk-reward here. If they are wrong, then someone else could die, or widespread transmission could take place. They won't know for a week or more if an outbreak in the school is taking place. Then it is too late to close.
