Calling All Biotechies!!!
Correction on the 2017 Biotech Charity Contest submission deadline:
The new deadline is Monday, January 2, 2017, Midnight, PST.

(Change made because I discovered markets are closed on Monday, with first day of 2017 trading on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.)

Here’s the link to the “2017 Biotech Charity Contest” board on Silicon Investor:
Subject 59795

Please read the Contest Guidelines in the Board Introduction before posting your portfolio.

The earlier portfolios are posted, the easier it is for me to set up the Contest spreadsheets.
Please help me publicize the 2017 Contest by posting the Contest info and link on boards & Twitter streams where biotechies hang out. It would be great to beat the 2016 record of 58 contestants!

12/23/16 Contest update
Call it the “Emoluments Claus Rally.” Biotech investors were gifted some much needed emoluments on this pre-Christmas Friday, turning an awful week into a “It could be worse” week.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -27.22% YTD (vs. down -25.44% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -19.49% YTD (vs. down -19.65% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -12.33% YTD (vs. down -11.95% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 9.09% YTD (vs. up 8.58% YTD a week ago).
STEVEL’s portfolio, up 34.46% YTD is our Contest leader and likely Contest winner (Steve, assuming you don’t fear it will jinx your lead, you might want to post your charity pick in the next few days.) JBOG’s portfolio, up 25.44% YTD and DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 15.76% YTD, held on to second and third place.
At Friday’s close, 8 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 22 portfolios beating the NBI and 13 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -17.61% and a median YTD loss of -31.74%, with 58 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Best wishes for a safe and joyful Holiday weekend!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
