That was really nothing, a blip.

9/11 trumps the Kennedy's and Kings assassination, but Vietnam was worse than Iraq. The repercussions from Iraq will be worse than Vietnam, but that's the future.

Yes

- their wages are probably less
Probably much less, but with more (bad) jobs

That's where I agree 100%. One of the biggest shifts for this generation from prior generations is the value (and compensation) of the average worker. It seems to me that the shareholder has gained what the worker has lost. A lot of that probably has to do with computerization, the transition from a manufacturing to a service economy, and globalization.

Whatever... it's still not the "American Dream" without generational progress, and I think that's come to an end. It looks like a small percentage will do absolutely great but the majority will just get by.

And, you have to pay off the debt...
