My father in law was a Sgt. Major in the U.S. Marines serving for 27 years, at one point in his service during the Vietnam era, it was his job to make those home visits and deliver the heart wrenching news to the military families... I actually met my wife while visiting at Camp LeJune Marine Base, she was a Marine brat... there are only two Sgt. Majors at Camp LeJune among more than 30,000 Marines at that Base and he was one of them, so dating the Sgt. Major's daughter took some real nerve at the time... but I'm so glad it worked out very well...
