I think Intel owns shares in PTEC and SYSF because they're the 2 best companies in the x86 assembly language business, which needs to be healthy for Intel to push the envelope in CPUs. They've also made a lot of money in both investments. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible for the individual investor to pay the cheap prices Intel paid for either company.
