Well, you wound up getting stationed in Germany, right, so that wasn't a bad move. Hard to know what to do in such circumstances. Seventeen is a dumb age. I ran away from home when I was 17, droped out of high school, never went back, supported myself at marginal jobs and lived in terrible tiny apartments. Wound up taking the GED, didn't even start college until I was 19, flunked out three times. I always do things the hard way.
