Mounting a Defense Against Millennium Bug
The news that 10 percent of the nation's top executives are stockpiling canned goods, buying generators and even purchasing handguns cannot be all that good.
No, what has the executives hunkering down is the worry that when the clock turns over to Jan. 1, 2000, the nation's computer infrastructure will go on the fritz, with electricity and water supplies following suit. The Y2K, or Year 2000, problem has received no dearth of attention. But a new survey from CIO Magazine, a publication for chief information officers, chief executives and vice presidents of large corporations, shows some concern among business leaders.
Of 330 executives surveyed, 56 percent said they believed the millennium bug would not be fixed in time, while a handful seemed to be planning for something more drastic. In fact, 10 percent said they planned to stockpile canned goods, 11 percent were buying generators and wood stoves, and 13 percent were upgrading personal security "with alarm systems, fencing and firearms."

Tell me the name of just one of these CEO's who has admitted that their company will not make it. It's always the 'other' guy.
Half of them don't think the job'll get done and a small number are out there buying generators.
Yeah, it sure sounds like being in a city surrounded by thousands of unprepared people is 'such' a good idea.
