another piece of info from reading btw. the lines you cited.. "optical backlog has been purged". Not necessarily optical backlog. To me it looks more opto-ELECTRONIC backlog was purged. Pure passive optics are literally in the crapper by now. But MOCVD (also called MOVPE) is being used for MMICs, optoelectronic, active optics (lasers, detectors), photonic integration also and those sector do look quite promising to me..
after all MLTC, TXCC, IVAC fit here, alongside the MMIC part of my New Japan Radio, and ofcourse their more prominent brothers: TRW, RFMD, TQNT, VTSS, AMCC and the like
