i'm just trying to get a rise out of some of the loyal AVG believers on the thread.
the pcmag review i quoted, while giving AVG poor marks, went on to say that it had a high member rating.
one of these members went on to speculate that NAV must have paid the magazine to give it high marks.
i think that if the testing was fair and the same viruses were submitted to all programs, then it is very telling when one of the programs misses six of them and gives seven false positives.
who among the members was able to conduct a similar test? none, i'm sure. they are speaking from personal experience, which, while valuable, is not the same as lab tests.
pcmag says the tests they conducted were "the most rigorous antivirus testing we have done to date".
lots of us rely upon consumer reports, for example, prior to buying an automobile or appliance. we figure that there is true benefit to be derived from an independent organization conducting a battery of strong tests that we can't or won't conduct ourselves.
should it be any different with antivirus software?
the av reviews, along with lots of other great utility reviews, can be found here...
