I don't even know why its in dispute. Bush says we are at war and the Patriot Act gave the President extreme far reaching powers to protect the American people while we are at war. Eavesdropping on communications between suspected Al Qaeda related people outside the US and someone inside the US is part of that authorized protection effort. That's the party line. If you ask me, Congress ought to just pass some legislation saying this so called "war" is over. Hey - just thought of this for a Democratic campaign slogan. The War or Terror should be replaced with the War on Error! You heard it here first.
