10:00 ET Dow +23, Nasdaq +12, S&P +1.39: [BRIEFING.COM] The markets have swung back into positive ground on markedly improved market internals. The Nasdaq didn't reach support at 2150 which may be a bullish signal for the very near term. The index has initial resistance at 2185 and also faces subsequent resistance just over 2200. Biotechs are notably strong on the heels of a few developments in the group. To start, Geron (GERN +9.2%) has announced that the U.S. Patent Office has issued the company a patent with claims directed to human embryonic germ (hEG) cells. These hEG cells are pluripotent, meaning they are capable of developing into all cell types in the human body. Separately, Abgenix (ABGX +4.9%) has announced a multi-year agreement with Biogen (BGEN +2.0%) in which both parties will use Abgenix's XenoMouse technology to target fifteen antigens supplied by Biogen. Under terms of agreement, Abgenix will receive up-front research payments, and could receive license and milestone payments, and royalties on any future product sales by Biogen.
