I'm not too young, I'm in my 50's, and I happen to be a student of history of the 60's, an expert in fact. Have you read The Pentagon papers? Have you seen The Fog Of War and heard McNamara's confessions? Do you know the history of JFK founding the Green Berets and using them to organize the hill tribesmen to hold back the VC? JFK waged only a small covert type SpecOps war which used local forces extremely effectively. I have even seen evidence that JFK planned to end the war in Vietnam.

Then he was killed. By who? One thing we know, it was not someone who wanted to end the war, on the contrary it was some sort of rightwing industrial-military cabal, probably allied with Hoover and black ops factions of the CIA. And perhaps their #1 purpose was to escalate the war and as a result make tens of billions in profits for the Halliburton types of their day. LBJ was a democrat but he was also allied with Brown + Root which is now Halliburton. LBJ withdrew in disgrace after his escalation of Vietnam failed and was exposed as based on a lie.

Nixon came in and escalated even more. He showed no concern for ending the war until about 1970, then didn't actually do so until 1973. But the Vietnam War was exposed as a quagmire by 1968. It should have been ended then. Those last five years cost America about 45,000 men and some say two million were killed in all. And for what? No good reason whatsoever. This was a terrible tragedy for America and a huge corrupt mistake. Nixon deserves as much blame as anyone. But LBJ deserves the other half.
