Agreed. Most systems are built so that there's one IDE hard drive and one IDE CDROM and they're both placed on the primary IDE channel. If you add a second hard-drive it's best to place it as a secondary master. The cable select option (CS) is like you said rarely used, but can come into play in tricky drive setups.

My ideal configuration is in one of my boxes and that's 2 SCSI drives, a SCSI internal Zip, a SCSI Toshiba DVD-ROM and a SCSI Yamaha CD-RW. No IDE channels are used and I can free up the IRQ's for other uses. <g>
