actually Tom the FDA also approves medical devices. It is generally a shorter process than for drugs. I am closely involved with a device company in a separate field (no competition with BISN) and they have extensive discussions with the FDA. FDA approval would be important if they wanted their products to qualify for insurance and Medicare reimbursement.
