It is patronizing

The blogger is a genius.

Multiculturalism is at its core patronizing and hypocritical. It supposes that its proponents are enlightened enough to allow themselves to view other cultures as equal to their own. I think of multiculturalism as cultural affirmative action. The French "condolence," which I interpret as insincere, was a perfect example. The subtext I read into it was "how could these idiots allow such a thing to happen?"

There is no equality of cultures at the extremes. A culture that idealizes death, that oppresses women, that is religiously intolerant, and is otherwise life-repugnant is a barbaric culture no matter what judgmental prism is used. Any attempts to ignore its essence by minimizing its faults is myopic and patronizing.

The UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights sets the standard for cultures and polities. As a culture fulfills the principles set forth in the Declaration, it progresses on the cultural scale. To the extent it fails, the culture is correspondingly deficient.
