Now you're talking:

That's not me talking. That's Globlastars plan.

"This chip also also provides us with the ability to develop a previously discussed
Globalstar Mobile Access Point product, a revolutionary small portable device which
could one day empower all wireless products with Globalstar capability. Such an
inexpensive product which we tentatively call ALLStar could be used to provide
Globalstar satellite connectivity from any Bluetooth or Wifi capable mobile wireless
device including cellular phones and smartphones such as Blackberries and Iphones.
This would allow anyone with an ALLStar device to connect over satellite, using any
handset they already own. We hope that in sufficient quantities one day we will be able to produce such a device for a cost of less than $100."

The untethered modem is quickly becoming a valid alternative to a dedicated phone/service provider arrangements. Using untethered modems. A Iphone user can use a CDMA/WiMax network like Verizon. Likewise a CDMA Nexus One could connect to a LTE network.

So any phone that has WiFi can connect to the Globalstar network.

So just like the no subsidy SPOT devices. Companies like Sierra Wireless can include MSS capability into their products for a low cost. Since Globalstar is very wide area. They can scale the production costs over a large number of units.

Of course spectrum monetization is still the big money maker long term...

The "Dog Food" so to speak.
