DANSKIN INC. APPOINTS GENERAL MANAGER FOR BRAND DANSKIN NEW YORK, Feb 15, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Danskin, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: DANS) has appointed Philip Davis to the position of Vice President/General Manager for Brand Danskin. Davis, who succeeds Gene Gsell, is based in Danskin's New York headquarters and reports directly to Carol Hochman, President and CEO of Danskin, Inc. "Philip Davis is an integral part of the team that will enable Danskin to realize a profitable year in 2000 and further strengthen this well-loved women's activewear brand," said Carol Hochman, President and CEO of Danskin, Inc. Davis will lead the sales and marketing efforts for all products under the Danskin brand label, including activewear, dancewear, the yoga-inspired Zen Sport line, plus sizes, children's apparel, and international business. He plans to build strategic business partnerships with retailers, helping them to analyze their business and position themselves for future growth. "By capitalizing on Danskin's incredible brand equity, we're going to expand Danskin's share in the growing women's activewear market," said Davis. "Our retail customers can expect Danskin to execute our core business with precision, keep ahead of trends in the women's fitness industry, and deliver products that reflect those up-and-coming trends." Davis brings 20 years' experience in women's apparel, with an emphasis on branding products. Davis excelled with Sirena Inc., a swimwear and intimates manufacturer. He led Sirena's most successful launch to date as President of Liz Claiborne Swimwear, establishing a dominant presence for the line in all major department stores across the country. He also served as President of Intimates Brands for Sirena; handled licensing for various activewear brands, including Rollerblade; helped launch Reebok Apparel as Vice President of Merchandising, and subsequently served as Reebok's Director of Apparel Sales. Armed with an MBA in Marketing from Emory University, Davis began his career with Macy's in their Executive Training Program. Davis has named Bill Bratton, a former colleague from Reebok, as Vice President of Sporting Goods for Danskin. Bratton brings 27 years of experience in the apparel wholesale business to his new position. Over the past ten years he served as Director of Apparel for Reebok, Inc. Previously, he was a key account manager for Adidas USA men's, women's, and children's apparel, handling the company's major retail accounts. With a BA in Marketing from Louisiana State University, Bratton launched his career as a multi-line activewear sales rep. Bratton will support Davis' focus on retailers by directing the Danskin sporting goods sales force nationwide. Centrally located in Houston, Texas, he plans to provide the personal touch for top volume retailers, presenting new products, and working with retailers to help them manage their business and profitability with the Danskin brand. Bratton, who has worked with sporting goods companies serving men, women and children, embraces Danskin's focus on activewear for women and girls. Danskin, founded in 1882, made its name by outfitting dancers before branching out to activewear, and most recently, Everywear(TM), which incorporates the best elements of active and casual wear. Unlike most manufacturers of activewear, Danskin has exclusively served a single target market -- women and girls -- for more than 100 years. Danskin enjoys strong brand awareness, measured at better than 80% among women. Danskin, Inc. markets and manufactures leading brands of women's activewear and dancewear under the Danskin(R), Danskin Plus(R), Danskin Packables(TM), and Zen Sport(TM) from Danskin(R) trademarks, and legwear under the Danskin(R), Givenchy(R), and Round the Clock(R) trademarks.
