unfortunately, i understand finance concepts very well, but not the inner workings of the markets- especially those of bulletin exhanges. in my simple mind, if buys outnumber sells, then we either have MMs selling inventory and/or MMs/others shorting the stock and selling shares they do not have at this time. In any case, the above scenarios are not sustainable for obvious reasons. however, one option is that on some sparsely-spaced days the MMs play with the bid-ask to accumlate inventory and then sell later at higher prices. but, in this case, we would expect to see some days where sells handily outnumber the buys...which i am not sure has happened yet. this is a good question and i have not seen a good answer yet dwlima
