regarding the plethora of new chips coming from Intel next week:
this is a terrific time for Intel to reshape (recapture?) the entire debate on the future of microprocessors. With the advent of the internet era driving commerce and personal use, new technologies on the horizon which can eventually change the way businesses and people work (voice recognition, streaming video, 3-d graphics, etc), and new technologies which will allow these applications to perform up to their capabilities (read Rambus, Rambus, Rambus), now is the time for Intel to define the direction of the next few years. By having something for virtually everybody next week and laying out the future progression of the technology, they will totally take back the debate from AMD and everyone else. Windows 2000 is a major part of this story, as is Rambus. Intel just sounds too confident, too focused, too assured right now. They have got the story together and it is a very good story. The market has recognized this for some weeks, driving Intel stock price up in the face of AMD and VIA threats and a soft tech sector. Nice partner for Rambus to have, huh.
