Hi Vlhdz
As Swiss with a very large portion of our savings in $ I wish things would be better for the $.
You must look not only on US interest rates. As they go up, an investment in $ gains on atractivness especially if on the other hand there is a posiblity of sinking interest rates in the Euro (to stimulate the economy (look at the very large number of unemployed). This would increase the difference in rates even vore. But on the other hand there are roumers of some foreign countries switching their monetary reserves out of the sagging $ into the Euro and what could proof to be even more damaging for the $ would be a switch from $ to Euro in dealing with oil or gold.
Worst of all is the ever increasing trade deficit and the staggering budget deficit which despite the assurance of Bush to cut down on the deficit is groging. This reduces the trust in the true value of the $. What is however very encouraging (and hard to believe by me) is the fact that the amount of American debt issues being bought by foreigners is actually increasing strongly. And you also will find a number of experts claiming that those large deficits are actually good!!
And then if you convert your assets into Euros, what are you going to do with your Euro-money? Buying bonds or shares?
I can only talk about Swiss equities and I must tell you that while the averages are not doing badly it is very hard to make money here. I think and act acordingly, that you can make up the losses on the $ with gains of investments in $-groth issues.
Fred (forgive my bad spelling but I am almost blind and looking up the words marked as wrong is practically impossibel)
