Within 15 minutes of picking up the phone I was hooked up at 52k.

Lucky you. You must be a few thousand feet from you phone company's CO with brand new lines connecting you and you must be served by an all new MSPG POP. Here in MSPG's home town, at least from my experience over the last 6-8 months, disconnects, busy signals, failed connections and incredibly slow connections (lucky if I can get 19.2, making me wonder why I bought a 56k modem) are the norm.

But BellSouth.net, I hear, is offering $17.95 unlimited use now (reported in the Atl. Bus. Chronicle a couple issues back) and soon, BellSouth will be offering ADSL. A reputation for service counts less than real service and there are only so many service problems that can be reasonably pinned on BellSouth.
