Well you're wrong about that. Many men of fine character served in the National Guard. Those Dems who continue to ridicule the Guard are simply losing votes for Kerry. Everyone of those quality men have families as well--adds up to a voting bloc of lost votes for Dems.

Kerry had decided to fashion his life using his idol JFK's example. Was it any coincidence that he enlisted in the Navy(like JFK), somehow got assigned to a small boat(how did he manage that one?), returned home with plans to run for political office. The one huge difference was Kerry's interim decision to become a war protester who during that process slandered all Vietnam veterans. That is however the exception that makes all the difference between the two men.
