I think the strategic guys might care only that AGP graphics is a huge hit and little about who's product gets the prizes.

Intel only cares about things that increase the demand for faster processors. Graphics fit the bill exactly. INTC could technically lose money on Chips and not give a damn if the competitors beat them by introducing graphics processors that demanded faster CPUs.
