Excerpt from Sycamore Networks registration statement regarding bandwidth demand(Bold Added):

According to Ryan, Hankin & Kent, a leading market research and consulting firm, public network bandwidth will have to increase by over 2000% between 1998 and 2002 to satisfy expected Internet and other data traffic requirements.
