Thanks for the article. Could you please post the Callister article also referenced in this issue?
Two comments:

"High coronary calcium scores have good sensitivity for obstructive coronary disease (80 to 100 percent), but low specificity (40 to 60 percent)."

I thought it has been conclusively demonstrated that the procedure has a negative predictive value in the mid to high 90s percentile. How can the specificity be so low with such a high negative predictive value?

"Before the routine clinical use of coronary CT scanning can be recommended for screening of asymptomatic patients or for the evaluation of patients with chest pain, however, more work is needed. Basic studies are required to define the role of calcium in plaque stability and progression, and prospective studies are needed to demonstrate the cost effectiveness of these techniques and their potential impact on cardiovascular outcomes."

This sounds like a typical researcher looking for grant money. These people never find a conclusive answer to anything because then they are out of a job. We've seen many studies published that correlate the calcium score to the progression of heart disease. (I can't spell atherosclerosis let alone pronounce it). We've had ten years of discovery and this guy talks like EBT just showed up yesterday. What's the deal?
