10:13 ET Follow-up on Pakistani offensive against al-Qaeda : For what it's worth, The Australian is reporting that Ayman al-Zawahiri, the #2 leader in al-Qaeda who is reported to be surrounded by Pakistani troops, may have escaped capture; according to the article, a bullet-proof LandCruiser believed to have contained al-Zawahiri, followed by two armoured vehicles and a phalanx of heavily armed militants, burst out of a tribal compound in Pakistan's South Waziristan region. Article states that a senior Taliban spokesman yesterday made the claim that both Zawahiri and bin Laden were safe in Afghanistan. We can't confirm how credible this is, but we're passing it along since it may appear on the newswires.
