Fred, OFF TOPIC re:"CRT replacement industry"

The new ones are only a distant cousin to these orange glowing things. The new technology has a cathode per pixel and high voltage "grid". The light is emited from phosphors same as a CRT, thus the "look" is identical to CRTs. I think companies with plasma experience developed these. Seems I remember the inventor is a European company.

The new plasma tech has been limited by getting the little plasma tips to last. Also it is tough getting uniform quality over such a large area, the major problem shared with LCD manufacture. I think these problems are getting solved faster and better than the problems facing big LCD screens. By the way, As far as I know these two techs are the ONLY viable techs for large flat screens.

I don't know how to make money here. This tech, and also the LCD tech is likely to be dominated by the big Japanese names. Any finiancial gain will be diluted. If you find a play let us all know!
