<reply> So one has to ask the question if it make sense to go direct to the home owners to solve this problem? We know that the population is growing and there is a natural growth to home ownership. So is it really primarily an inventory problem? To put it another way, if the govt went into the market and purchased 2m homes, what would happen to house prices? What would happen to the people sitting on the fence? What is the chance that the govt will lose on this option and how much? I am not saying this is the answer or a real answer, just giving a possible reason for why some people are talking about other approaches.

So now we know a little more about what Paulson and B are thinking. They want to pay mature values for these mortgage instruments. So I was thinking/worrying about further marking downs, but they are really thinking about firing up a marking up process. Maybe that was why they were providing so little details about how and what and asking for full control. Wow. They all but said the system comes first, screw everything else. And they expect congress to just roll over after saying that???
