<.....th these cost issues as they have the benefit of cashflow from
their cable business as well. I would bet that a typical cable bill of say 40/mo for tv
content and 40/mo for internet access gives them many more opportunities for
making a business than an ISP only getting 20/mo per customer. ....>

I am willling to venture that the average ISP with ASND hdwe has their fixed costs per customer down very low. You see, my cable Co. still has to pay postage on my monthly bill. I qualify that with ASND hdwe because I was with another ISP with junk Microcom hdwe. Their costs/ customer were probably very high because they had a lot of people answering the phone and telling customers that the problem was with their non-Microcom modems.

Guess what! I wouldn't have to pay 40/mo. for internet access from my cable provider. In fact, I'm not willing to pay 30/mo because I already plan to have that 2nd phone line for other purposes. The POTS ISP is now getting 18.95 from me for 56k service -- you guessed it! -- via ASND hdwe. He will probably get less from me in the future as competition gets stiff. Quite frankly, it works great because it feeds me data as fast as about 90% of all Web sites that I hit can. Logging on is also very reliable -- a testimony to the fact that ASND is definitely an upper-tier hardware Co.
