Is there a good reason why this is NOT simply a preparation for SP500 addtion? Didn't Qualcomm do exactly the same thing when they were included in SP500? It could well be that large funds managers demanded the shares and Goolge's willingness to pocket the cash. It is in the company's long-term interest not to have a price spike due to index activity.
