Marathon drills 10 m of 3.1 g/t PGM plus Au at Marathon

2006-12-20 14:37 ET - News Release

Mr. Phillip Walford reports

THE FINAL DRILL RESULTS OF 2006 AND THE STARTING OF THE 2007 DRILL PROGRAM

Marathon PGM Corp. is releasing nine additional drill hole results from the 2006 drilling program on the Marathon PGM-Cu project. The drill holes M-06-232 to M-06-236 were exploration holes drilled in the Main, BR and Malachite zones. The holes with the GD designation are geotechnical holes in the Main zone and only those holes that were designed to cut the mineralization are reported.

M-06-232 was drilled to test the eastern extension of the high-grade mineralization in the Malachite zone. It intersected a narrow zone of mineralization that appears to be the eastern edge of the zone. Modelling of the high-grade zone indicates that it is plunging to the northwest and this area will be tested when drilling resumes in January, 2007. Holes M-06-235 and M-06-236 have extended the BR zone farther north.

The GD holes were drilled to test the Main and South resource pit walls. The results of the preliminary study by Golder Associates Ltd. are highly encouraging. The rock was found to be strong and with low water permeability. The recommended slope angle for the majority of pit high wall is 55 degrees. The maximum pit slope used in the resource estimation and preliminary economic assessment was 50 degrees. The steeper angle will reduce the amount of waste removal required to mine as the mineralization deepens and reduces mining costs.

Prospecting was conducted in October on magnetite layers about 200 metres west of the Main zone. These zones are known to contain PGM and copper mineralization and are in or on the edge of the Main zone planned pit. The results of the prospecting were very good with many grab samples above one gram of combined PGM and gold as well as copper values found for 1.8 kilometres along the Main zone. The best value to date contained 3.84 grams per tonne Pd, 0.50 g/t Pt, 0.05 g/t Rh and 0.17 per cent Cu. Further prospecting and trenching is planned for 2007.

Start of the 2007 drill program

The 2007 exploration and definition program of drilling is planned to start in January with one drill and another to be added in February. Both drills will be needed for most of the year to drill the 35,000 m budgeted for 2007.

All exploration work is being performed under the guidance and supervision of Phillip Walford, president and chief executive officer of the company, a professional geologist and qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. All of the samples were sent to Accurassay, an accredited laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ont., to be assayed using fire assay and other standard techniques.

We seek Safe Harbor.
