In the 90's, factions of the far right started getting serious about killing representatives of what they saw as the "liberal" government. The gun nuts vs. the ATF, for instance.

Limbaugh using terms like "feminazis" to describe women who stood up for their civil rights is evidence of the purpose behind the rabblerousing. Limbaugh wanted to turn the country man against his own government. Plus the whole big lie that environmentalists were keeping the country man from making a living. Or that "liberals" were trying to take away his guns. Or whatever. All this irrational anger led to violence and the threat of more violence.

Notice once Bush-Cheney came into power the militia movement disappeared. Meanwhile, Bush-Cheney run a much more opressive intrusive government, even eavesdropping on US citizens without warrants and other stripping of civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, and trying to tell us when we can unplug our terminal loved ones.
