Sean, RDRT's HSA's do not contain platters! It's just a stack of heads. I think the RDRT press release is good news because: 1. Ampex and Maxtor have a deal ($$) for MR or Inductive head drives. 2. Ampex states that KM + MR significantly increases disk capacity. 3. Ampex has supplied sample KM platters for use with MR to several manufacturers. 4. Maxtor has advised Ampex that its preference is to switch future programs from inductive to MR-based designs, provided that a sufficient quantity of MR heads becomes available. 5. Maxtor now has a supplier (RDRT) "sufficient quantity" for it's MR heads and plans to have MR drives available later this year. Please explain why you think the RDRT press release is negative for Ampex. Milt
