Yes, but you recall that Lee took leave from the Army in 1859 to settle his father-in-law's estate (I believe he was executor or administrator), to manumit his slaves (Lee had no slaves except by inheritance, and manumitted those he inherited in 1862). I feel confident he lived in Arlington that year. (don't believe he was ever stationed in the Pentagon). I believe it was from Arlington that he was called to take command of Lt. Israel Green and his platoon of Marines and the federalized Virginia militia against John Brown at Harper's Ferry in 1859. It was from Arlington that he was called in 1861 to consult with Lincoln and Scott about a high command in the U.S. military. I wasn't there, of course. The Lees were a large and fertile family. Robert and my great grandfather were acquainted (friends in usually untrustworthy family lore) and visited each other at White Sulfur Springs when both "took the cure" recovering from the war. If you like to play "Connections" check out Washington -- Harry Lee -- R.E. Lee -- Woodrow Wilson -- Franklin Delano Roosevelt -- John Kennedy. When and where did these people meet the next one in line.
