We'll see about mid size. Eric points to something important. If WP gains 20% market share it is not mid size. In any case, sports stuff makes more sense than you suggest. What is currently happening in stadiums across North America? Teams are moving to new ones which are built around the design of more and better luxury boxes. Who goes to these events? Executives. Executives invite staff to the luxury box. I think if you're not on the map in the corporate world in this sense, then you fall behind. If most everyone in the corporate world has heard of Corel, then so much the better. First plant the seeds, then watch them grow. Just to add to this...and speaking of tennis...who goes to tennis tournaments...you'll notice that "York University" (Toronto) and "Carleton University" (Ottawa) had tents at a recent tennis tournament in Toronto. Does this mean sponsors are hoping to sell their product to a whole bunch of York U students or Carleton U students? Nope, they hope (and we can draw this analogy to all big cos & institutions) that important execs and alumni will feel an affinity with the sponsor. High-level manoeuvring that can win contracts down the road...not direct advertising to consumers a la Coke, Nike. Of course I may be out to lunch...maybe Corel really thinks people watching the Senators on TV will have an overwhelming urge to go out and buy the new Corel Draw!
