this is basically the same thing we are working on. basically, you print semiconductors on a metal film (princeton is using steel foil) and then put a layer of plastic over it coated with organic dyes.
voila, you have a light emitting device. the most interesting thing about it is that it removes the silicon substrate from manufacturing, cutting costs considerably and making a much more durable device. the people at princeton dropped one thirty feet and it still worked perfectly.

i think princetons goal is a wall sized xray unit.
