I was able to vote at 18 and my grandfather sat me down to tell me what a responsibility that was and said if you are faced with 2 candidates for an election and you don't know either one, vote for neither. Same with initiatives. I thought that was good advice and that is what I've done. That will happen with mainly lower races locally. I will also not vote for either if I can't stand either candidate.

Surprisingly with Franken in MN this has been deemed that folks don't actually do that. They have ballots that the person voted for the democrat all the way through but didn't fill in Franken's circle. This has been deemed by the election board as clearly a democratic vote and it's been counted for Franken. My school of thought is it's a democrat who can't stand the foul SOB and just wouldn't cast a vote for him.

Your right though, a good share of folks have zero idea what/who they are voting for.
